How long does it take to charge an electric car? – Everything you need to know today!

We are in the innovative days of the electric vehicle, with charging technologies that aren’t entirely standardized and a wide variety of charger types due to the various EV battery capacity.

All the electric vehicles are not created equal, so it would be hard to predict exactly how long does it take to charge an electric car? An EV owner should know that the time it would take to charge their vehicle’s battery fully will never be as short as the time it takes to fill up a gas tank or even charge their iPhone.

Technology may get there eventually, but not anytime soon.

Revolution of Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles (EVs) are a relatively effective technology that has piqued people’s interest. They’re almost entirely silent and provide a powerful torque sensation right away.

The majority of electric vehicles are lightning-fast. Even the best 12-cylinder supercars would be blown away by EV 0-60 seconds if it weren’t for the tremendous weight of the batteries. With a 0-60 time of just 3.7 seconds, the Tesla Roadster is insanely fast.

Even if all of our electricity came from coal-fired power plants, there would be significantly less pollution than if everyone drove their car with a gas-powered engine.

How long does it take to charge an electric car at a charging station?

Charging an electric automobile can take somewhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours. It depends on the size of the battery and the charging station you are using.

Well, the scenario is completely different in this case. It only takes a few minutes to empty the nozzle into your fuel tank, whether you’re using gasoline or diesel. It’s not nearly as simple with an electric vehicle.

You’ll need to figure out how big your EV batteries are and their capacity to contain kWh. Furthermore, it would be best if you determined the charging rate of the charger to which you are connected.

EV Charging Levels

Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 are the three stages of electric vehicle charging. The greater the rate, the quicker the EV’s batteries will charge. So far, it’s been pretty simple. But what exactly do these levels imply?

Level 1: When you plug your EV into a conventional 120-volt household outlet, the same one you use for your computer, mobile phone, or toaster, you receive Level 1 charging.

Because the battery obtains three to five miles of range each hour of charge, Level 1 charging results in unreasonably extended charging periods, this means that the owner of a rear-wheel-drive Ford Mustang Mach-E with extended range will have to wait roughly 75 hours.

You should anticipate getting three to six miles of range per hour when charging at Level 1. Level 1 charging may be sufficient if you only drive 30 to 40 miles a day.

Level 2: Level 2 can charge the automobile 10 times faster than a Level 1 system. Most EVs will be fully charged overnight thanks to Level 2 charging, giving between 12 and 80 miles of range every hour of charge.

Depending on various factors, it gives around 20 to 30 miles of driving range every hour. However, if you’re charging your EV with a Level 2 system, you should be able to receive a full charge overnight.

Level 2 charging takes roughly 10 hours for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

Level 3: This type of charging is known as “Supercharging.” In the case of Tesla, it delivers a range of 3 to 20 miles per minute.

This is accomplished by directly injecting DC power into the battery, rather than an AC converted to DC by the car’s built-in charger, as with Levels 1 and 2.

A fast-charging session typically conducts most of its charging in the first 15 to 30 minutes, achieving up to 80% of range in that period, before slowing down dramatically to avoid battery damage.

In public places, fast chargers are common.

The built-in charger in an electric vehicle is the mechanism that converts AC electricity from the power source to DC electricity stored in the battery. Because these chargers are usually rated in kilowatts, the battery capacity should be divided by the charger rating.

The number of hours required to charge the vehicle is given to you. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT would take 8.4 hours to charge from a drained battery in a Level 2 power source, assuming the power source can deliver the 10.5 kW that the charger is capable of.

What is an electric car’s range per hour of charging

You need to know how fast your car charges and what speeds are available to you as an electric car driver.3.7kW slow 7kW quick 22kW fast 50kW speedy km of range increased per hour of charging.

  • Rapid power of 150 kW
  • Up to 20 kilometers
  • Up to 40 kilometers
  • Up to 120 kilometers
  • Up to 300 kilometers
  • Up to 900 kilometers

How to fast charge an electric car?

The size, efficiency, and, most significantly, the weight of an electric car’s battery determine its range. Because of the considerable weight differential, smaller EVs like the Renault Zoe are more efficient than larger EVs like the Tesla Model X.

Many plug-in hybrids have the same problem, as they are typically less efficient due to the restrictions.

The weather, the temperature of the car’s battery, the length of the charging cable, and the battery’s State of Charge (SoC) at the time of plugging are equally responsible for charging a vehicle.
